We know it’s unfair that our fur babies don’t live forever. This is why we offer a special session just for older or ailing pets. We work with your pet and what they can handle to create a relaxed, calm experience with no time limits or constraints. With plenty of time for breaks, snuggles, and snacks, this photo session is intended to honor your pet in a low-stress environment. The K Schulz process

  1. Before Your Session

Upon receiving your inquiry, we collaborate to determine the optimal time and location that perfectly suits your beloved pets. To secure your preferred time slot, you sign a contract. You pay 50% to book and 50% the day before. As the session approaches, I delve deeper into understanding your furry companion to ensure the most captivating photographs.

  2. During Your Session

The day we meet in person, I make sure you and your pet feel safe, comfortable, and confident every moment we’re together. My focus is on capturing your pet’s unique personality – all you have to do is enjoy your time with your furry companion. Don’t worry about shy pets, leashes, any reactivity, or wigglebutts that can’t sit still. We got this!

  3. After Your Session

Within 14 days following our time together, you will receive access to your online gallery to view your initial photos. Once you've made your selections, I will finalize each image for any leashes and background distractions. Once this is complete, you can effortlessly download your digital files or opt to purchase prints directly from your gallery.

What people say

Couple walking two goldendoodles down a sunlit city path
“Kelly was amazing!! She captured the shyness of my older girl and the spunk of my baby girl and the love of our family in all the pictures. We have found our furever family photographer and can’t wait to take our fall pictures with Kelly at our favorite spot on location. She captured the fun and happiness in ways I never could on my own. Highly recommend using her!!”

“Kelly is incredible! We've worked with her a few times now and she never fails to capture the best of our pups. I am always unsure of how my dog did looking at the camera, but Kelly always manages to capture not just good photos, but the best photos even with an easily distracted dog. She is also so kind and a joy to be around for both dogs and their humans!”

“I love my photos from K Schulz Photography! Kelly really has an eye for dog photography and brought my vision to life during our sunrise photoshoot. She made me and my dog feel so comfortable during the photoshoot where I felt like I could be myself to get the most authentic photos possible. I highly recommend her!! (and sunrise photoshoots!)”

Frequently asked questions

Booking and location

Do you indoor or outdoor? And do you have a studio?

K Schulz Photography is highly experienced in both indoor and outdoor pet photography, we do specifically specialize in outdoor photos that highlight the natural environments and weather. We now have access to a studio space in NE Minneapolis

Do you do studio photography?

Outside of pop-up events at local studios and businesses (follow along on Instagram or sign up for our email list to get notified about these!), our photo sessions are typically either outdoor or in home. If you’d like a studio session specifically, we can rent a studio at an extra cost.

How do I book a pet photography session?

Contact me here to get things started! Once we talk through the best package and date for you and your pet, I’ll send a proposal and instructions to book. You pay 50% to book your date and 50% day before your session.

Can we choose the session location or do you?
If you have a favorite dog park or cozy corner of your home, you are definitely welcome to choose your own location. However, I am also always happy to give you recommendations based off your personal needs.

Your pet

Do you photograph deaf or blind pets?

Yes, of course! Not only do I have experience photographing deaf or blind pets, I’ve also worked with those who are both. While booking your session, we can talk through the ways I’m still able to get high quality photos of them.

Can you get multiple pets in one image?

Yes, most of the time we can get all your fur babies in one photo without editing. But If we can't wrangle them, don’t worry! I have many photo sessions where we end up taking separate shots of your pets and compositing them together so all your babies are in one final image.

Do you photograph other pets or animals besides dogs?

I have years of experience working with cats, horses, lizards, and pocket pets (rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, gerbils, hedgehogs, chinchillas, hamsters). I have also worked with farm animals (chicken, donkeys, goats). If you have a pet that I haven’t previously photographed, we’ll work together to make sure you feel comfortable before booking your session.

What if I have more of a reactive dog?

I have a wide experience of photographing reactive pets, and am happy to build a session around what works best for you and your furry companion. For instance, if they’re reactive to other dogs, I’ll recommend a time or place where we’ll be able to enjoy our time on our own (or even a home session). If they’re more reactive to humans, I can use a long lens and stay further back or we can do slower intros to each other – as long as your dog won’t put me in imminent danger, I’m confident we can still set up a session.

Does my dog have to be off leash?

Nope! Most locations we’d visit during a session have leash laws anyway, so keeping your dog on a leash is definitely okay. Plus, we can edit leashes out of your photos at no extra cost.

What if my dog doesn’t know commands?
We got you! Many dogs don’t always listen to commands, so I do recommend practicing “Sit!” before the session. But after over ten years of experience working with shelter and rescue dogs, even if your pup isn’t perfect, I’m confident we can get great photos without your dog knowing commands.

On the day

Do you help with posing?

Yes – I definitely help with posing! We’ll start by getting you and family members posed and then give your pets prompts to interact. And if your pet doesn’t want to pose or has a different idea, we’ll roll with it!

Can I be in the photos? Or what if I don't want to be in photos?

I’m a photographer for people and their pets! If you’d like to be in the photos, you’re more than welcome to, but there’s no pressure to feel like you have to be. If you do choose to be in the photos, I generally do around 50% of just your pet and 50% with you unless you let me know otherwise. If your hands and shoes are photo ready, I can also simply take close ups with you and your pet to incorporate yourself while still making your fur baby the star.

What should I bring/wear to my session?
Everyone who books a photography session not only receives a free guide on what to bring and wear, but you’re also able to contact me for a personal consultation on this before your session. My biggest tip? Something that doesn’t show all the fur!

After: your photos

How long do I have to download/view my photos online?

After you receive your photo gallery, you’ll have 60 days to review, pick your favorites, and download. I always recommend doing this within the first two weeks before it becomes an afterthought. But dont worry I send reminder emails!

How soon after the session will I get my photos?
Your online gallery will be uploaded within 14 days of your photo session.
Do I get the digital files?
Yes, all packages come with high resolution digital files with a legal release so you can order as many prints as you’d like.
